3 Days Kibaale Forest Chimp Safari Tour
Kibaale Forest National Park is famous for Primates. The park has 13 species of primates, notably the chimpanzees, man's closest animal in the whole of Africa. Kibale Forest harbors the highest population of chimpanzees in Africa (over 1450). Among other primates in Kibale national park, you will see olive baboons, the uncommon I'Hoest's monkeys and the endangered red colobus monkeys, bush baby and potto, black and white colobus, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys. This park has over 325 bird species including six Albertine rift endemics i.e. the purple-breasted sunbird, dusky crimsoning, red-faced woodland warbler, blue-headed sunbird, black-capped apalis and collared apalis.
There are other Kibale species such as the African pitta, black bee-eater, green breasted pitta, Abyssinian ground thrush, black-eared ground thrush, yellow spotted nicator, blue-breasted kingfisher, little green bull, brown-chested alethe, the crowned eagle and yellow-rumpled tinker bird, and many others. Other mammals include buffalos, elephants, leopards, duikers, bush pigs as well as a variety of colorful butterflies, amphibians and reptiles.
Day 1 - Kampala - Fort Portal
The journey starts on the road going to Fort Portal via Mityana, after an early breakfast at your Kampala hotel. The 4 to 5 hours drive through lush plantations breaks in Fort Portal for your lunch at Mountains of the Moon Hotel or any other hotel of your choice. Dinner and night will be spent at Mountains Of The Moon Hotel / Chimp Nest Lodge.
Day 2 - Chimp Tracking in Kibaale Forest
After morning breakfast, you will start your journey to Kanyanchu. You will be briefed at 08.00am before tracking the chimpanzees. There is a 95% chance you will encounter habituated chimps - man's closest living animals. There are no motor tracks open to tourists at the park so they are only accessible by foot. In the afternoon hours you will enjoy a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland where you will explore a variety of birds and monkey species. Dinner and overnight stay will be spent at Mountains of the Moon Hotel or Chimp Nest Lodge.
Day 3 - Transfer back to Kampala
The journey to Kampala will begin after breakfast. On arrival, if interested, you may have the famous Kampala tour in the evening. You can spend the night at The Lodge Lweza for a quick and jam free airport transfer at your chosen time.
