8 Days Uganda Bird Watching Holiday

Day 1: Mabamba Wetland, Mabamba Surroundings,

At Entebbe airport, our driver guide will straight away drive to Mabamba wetland bay to watch birds for 2-3 hours, using dug out canoes explore the wetland in search for swamp species and later bird around the visitor centre. Here Swamp species include; elegant shoe bill stork, lesser jacana, long toed lapwing, blue headed coucal, black crake, purple gallinule, swamp flycatcher and African pygmy goose,. Malachite king fisher, Purple Heron, Blue swallow, Broadbill roller, Blue breasted bee-eater, White thighed hornbill, wyne's weaver. Transfer to Kampala and check in at a booked hotel.

Day 2: Lake Mubro National Park

On your way from Kampala you will have an opportunity to bird along Kako swamp, after which drive straight to the park to catch up with sun downer boat cruise in search for water birds and swamp species. Bird Cruise: African fin foot, white backed night heron, Rufous belied heron, White winged warbler, Papyrus Gonlek, papyrus canary, African fish eagle, Pied King fisher, etc. Dinner and overnight at a tented camp, safari lodge, cottages or camping

Day 3: Swamp Birding

Watching birds before breakfast gives an opportunity to see early risers around camps surroundings and Lake Mburo swamp areas, return and catch up with your breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth park birding along tracks on your exitLake Mburo species: Red faced barbet, green backed woodpecker, Tabora cisticola, cuckoos, grey-capped warbler, and black-headed weaver, brown-chested lapwing, rufous-napped lark, black-bellied bustard, lilac-breasted roller, helmeted guineafowl, Coqui francolin, plus many raptors.

Day 4: Birding Queen Elizabeth

Bird watching in the open savannah of Queen Elizabeth Park starts with an early rise, birding along the tracks, Kasenyi plains and Lake Gorge gives you chance to view lots of savannah species and raptors, afternoon is for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel Birding cruise: African fish eagle, Pallid Harriers, Black tailed Godwit, Slender billed gull, Common tern, Spoon Bill, African Skimmers, Great White pelican, Pink backed pelicans, Saddle billed stork, Martial Eagle, lesser Flamingoes. Still here wildlife such as the antelopes, elephants and buffaloes plus the rare lions can be seen.

Day 5: Forest Endemics, Bwindi impenetrable forest Park.

This morning you will leave for Bwindi national park through the Ishasha sector famous for it's tree climbing lions. Birding along the main road and Northern circuit offers you lots of opportunities to see raptors. Check in at a tented camp or safari lodge for two nights stay and use your afternoon to bird Buhoma surroundings. Bwindi forest species: Ross's Turaco, Black billed Turaco, Black bee-eater, Strange weaver, Magie manikin, Grey headed negrofinch, Black billed weaver, Black necked weaver, Stuhlmann's starling, Pink footed puff back, Bocage's bush-shrike, Ludher's bush shrike, Narina tragon, banded prinia, blue headed sunbird.

Day 6: Albertine Endemics – Endemic Birding

You will have a full day bird watching along the water fall loop and forest trails searching for rift endemics and other species of interest. Endemic species: Black bee eater, short tailed warbler, purple breasted sunbird, yellow eyed black fly catcher, red faced woodland warbler, brown capped weaver, red throated alethe, Kivu ground thrush, Strange weaver, Black faced apalis. But still if you need to track the gorillas at a fee you can still takeo on this interesting experience.

Day 7: Albertine Endemics - Ruhiija Bamboo Zone

Ruhija is the highest point of Bwindi park at 2300M high offers you an opportunity to see more of the endemics that you might have missed in Buhoma bird it's surrounding and Bamboo zone before transferring to Bunyonyi for dinner and over night stay. Albertine endemics: Handsome Francolin, Stripe breasted tit, Regal sunbird, Dusky Crimson wing, Shelly's crimson wing, Doherty's bush shrike, mountain masked apalis, Archers robin chat, Rwenzori batis.

Day 8: Back to Entebbe

Transfer to Entebbe airport for your home flight.
